The city of Patan is located about 30 km away from Jabalpur and connects the two districts of Jabalpur and Damoh. The town has a total population of 13215 people according to the 2002 census of India. The average literacy rate in the town is 66%.

The economy of Patan depends much on agricultural productions. The land of the region is very fertile and is perfect for growing various crops. The town is also a hub for grain trading and and many grain traders visit the town to buy wheat, grams, pulses and soybean and other major agricultural items.
